MasterDoorSet Software Speeds Up Door Making

With Masterwood’s new MasterDoorSet CAD/CAM software package, it takes just two minutes to design a slab door and door frame and produce a complete set of machining programs.

It’s for use with slab, or solid core, door blanks, including assembled fire, internal and fibreglass versions produced on Masterwood CNC machining centres.

Masterwood has developed the unique piece of software in the UK after talking to numerous door manufacturers. It’s so simple to follow that even those with no previous computer experience can use it, after looking at a demonstration CD..

The CD features clear instructions and diagrams to guide users through the four- stage door design process.

The first step is to select a door style from the large library of pre-defined styles available and set the required dimensions. The hardware to be included with the door, such as locks, hinges and spy holes, are then chosen from a comprehensive library.

Users can create a door style of their own choice and save it in the library for future use, and can quickly add additional hardware items to the library.

A visual representation of the door that has been designed, including the frame, is then shown so that changes can be made if required.

The program then creates the tool paths and converts them into a list of instructions (machining programs) for feeding into the machining centre so that it can machine the blank and frame ready for assembly.

An operations list lets users view the settings of each cutting operation, which is set up by the Masterwood technician whilst on site.

Said Masterwood (UK) Ltd’s managing director, Russell Corlett: “It takes over an hour to design a slab door and produce the machining instructions with most other CAD/CAM software programs. With MasterDoorSet all it takes is a couple of minutes as it’s the user-friendliest software on the market.”

Masterwood is shortly to introduce Master Traditional Door, a similar, easy-to-use software program for use with stile and rail doors incorporating fielded panels.

“Both programs are Windows-compatible and will transform a door making business, whatever its size,” said Mr Corlett.
