MASTERWOOD MARCHES AHEAD AT LIGNA

Yet again, CNC machining centre manufacturer Masterwood had a highly successful Ligna 2007, using the occasion to unveil a host of new machines for fast and accurate panel and joinery processing.

Said Masterwood (UK) managing director Russell Corlett: "As well as taking a reasonable number of enquiries from UK woodworkers, we took even more from Irish visitors. The Irish economy is currently booming and woodworkers there are keen to invest in the very latest machinery and software."

In particular, there was a high level of interest shown in the new Project 500L CNC machining centre which incorporates a unique table that automatically positions clamps. Featuring a boring head with 40 spindles and a height control dust extraction hood, it was demonstrated making window components, controlled by Masterwood's MasterWindow and Master AT (automatic
table) software.

Also proving popular with visitors was the new entry-level priced Project 300, again shown making window components. It also features a new boring head with 7 + 7 vertical spindles and a height control dust extraction hood.

Another new model that turned lots of heads was the Technomat 1000, which is available in a special version capable of the efficient machining of newel posts.

Masterwood's new MultiMill has been developed for the high speed routing and boring of door and window components. Intended for businesses with high levels of throughput, it features three independent carriages and double loading and unloading devices.

Other new machines that attracted favourable comments were the 5-axis Project 5H, which has a Z working stroke of 568mm, making it suitable not only for stair, window and door processing but for plastics, beams, and mould builders, and the Project 400, an improved version of the former Project 415 panel processing model.

Masterwood is unique in supplying its own purpose-designed panel and joinery software. Amongst software packages demonstrated to receptive audiences during the show were Masterworks, MasterWindow, MasterSlidingSash, MasterCabinet, Master AT, MasterTraditionalDoor and MasterDoorSet.

Said Mr Corlett: "With our broad range of machining centres and specialist software packages we are able to meet all the requirements of panel and joinery manufacturers, whatever the size of their business.

"Throughout the five days of the show we had serious discussions with visitors about all of the new machines, which we will be following up. We sold a large number of machines as a result of our last appearance at Ligna and expect to do even better this time."
