Masterwood reaps the benefits of W6

Masterwood (UK) Ltd had a barn-storming W6, taking orders worth around £700,000 for its CNC machining centres and specialist software and receiving a particularly high level of enquiries.

Said managing director, Russell Corlett: “We have heard of a number of exhibitors complaining about low attendance levels. We certainly cannot complain, as we took more orders and had more serious leads than at the last Woodmex.”

All of the machines featured on the stand were sold. A Project 5 fitted with the automatic table system went to Riverside Joinery of Norwich; the Project 415L was bought by Architectural Doors, of Ireland ; and the Project 315 was sold to a customer in Belgium.

“In all we took orders for seven machines during the four days, which including four sales made during the final afternoon, one just as the show was about to close,” said Mr Corlett.

Visitors to W6 showed a great deal of interest in all the Masterwood CNC machining centres being demonstrated.

Amongst last-minute customers was Martin Jones, managing director of Custom Precision Joinery, of Buckley. North Wales . He travelled to the show to order a Project 415L to join his two other Masterwood machines, a Technomat and a Winner."

Said Mr Jones: “We needed a new CNC machine to increase the production of stair, window and door parts. I have been using Masterwood machines for nearly seven years and had no hesitation in sticking with them. They are very efficient machines and Masterwood always gives us a good after-sales service.”

With the 415L's 5.1m long bed, compared to the 4.2m long bed of the Technomat, Custom Precision Joinery will be able to machine longer staircases.

Masterwood's John Cookson displays the results achieved with the company's new face framing facility, now available as part of its Master Cabinet software program.

It already uses Masterwood's specialist MasterStair software with its Technomat. For use with the new 415L it will receive an upgraded Windows version.

Also sold during the closing hours of the show were two of the new Project 500 models, which have not yet been officially launched into the UK , and a CNC mortising machine.

Martin Jones, managing director of Custom Precision Joinery (left), shakes on a deal to order a Masterwood Project 415L CNC machining centre with Masterwood's John Cookson. It brings to three the number of Masterwood machines in use at the company.

Said Mr Corlett: “During the week we took a large numbers of good quality leads for CNC machines fitted with our new Automatic Table. Also proving extremely popular were Master Sliding Sash software and the Master Cabinet program, featuring a unique face framing facility, another UK first for Masterwood.”

He continued: “At this early stage after the end of exhibition we believe that W6 will be responsible for around 40-50 per cent of our total turnover this year. That's an extremely satisfactory result from just one trade show appearance.”
