Plenty of new machines and software from Masterwood
W6 Working with Wood: Hall 19 – Stand RO3
Masterwood will concentrate on giving demonstrations of its latest work-hungry CNC machining centres and specialist software programs for highly productive panel and joinery component processing.
The new 5 axis Project 5 CNC machining centre from Masterwood.
Hardware
Among new models on show will be the five-axis Project 5, fitted with the unique Auto Table (AT), the most advanced joinery machine yet to be developed by Masterwood.
The Project 5 comes in three model sizes with an X axis of 3,200, 5,200 or 6,200mm, a routing Y axis of 1,500mm and a Z axis of 568mm. The 12kw, five axis router head is the strongest in the industry,
The unique AT system cuts down significantly on setting-up times - often from 10 minutes to less than 10 seconds - by arranging for the automatic and optimum positioning and re-positioning of clamps or vacuum cups on the machine's bed.
Once the operator has loaded all the pieces, all processes, including cutting, moulding, milling, profiling, boring and tenoning, take place in a single cycle with no further manual handling needed.
Two new Project 415Ls, a longer version of the popular Project 415, will be shown, one specified for door and stair production and the other for cabinet production, including face framing.
It has an 8kw air cooled or 14kw liquid cooled router with 10 vertical and six horizontal drills and a 120mm grooving saw as standard. There's also a 12 position carousel tool changer with a maximum tool diameter of 220mm plus a 10 post tool changer beside the router head.
Masterwood's new Project 315 'entry level' CNC machining centre.
The new Project 315, for cabinet processing, is nicknamed the ‘Super Speedy'. Probably the most economical entry-level CNC with such a high specification on the market, it's available with a choice of a matrix table, ideal for nesting purposes, or a pod tubeless-type system.
For use with panels up to a maximum size of 8' x 4', it operates at speeds of 60m/min in the X and Y axis and 20m/min in the Z axis, with centralised manual lubrication. For a machine with such a high specification it has a space-saving footprint of 5.5m long x 3.7m deep.
Maximum capacities are 2800mm in the X stroke and 1280mm in the Y stroke. It can cut through panels to a maximum of 90mm using a 100mm long tool and has a clear passage of 110mm in the Z position.
It has a 10.5 hp router with 10 vertical and 6 horizontal tool drills and a 120mm grooving saw fitted as standard. There's also a 12-post carousel tool changer with a maximum tool diameter of 150mm.
The stand will house an extensive software suite where visitors can try out Masterwood's exclusive range of user-friendly software programs.
Software
Amongst new software is Master Sliding Sash, a major breakthrough in the design and production of double-hung wooden sliding sash windows. It lets you design and produce the main types of double-hung sliding sash windows, automatically producing a cutting list and drawing of every component, plus the machining programs.
Also new is Master AT (automatic table), which needs to be seen to be believed. It can be integrated with both Master Window and Master Sliding Sash.
You develop a window design in either program then export it to Master AT and all of the components are dealt with.
Master AT decides the optimum position for each component on the bed and creates a new programme for all the components, optimising on tool changes and the tool path.
A reduction on the cycle time of around 30 per cent is guaranteed.
Other joinery programs available will include Master Stair, Master Door Set, and Master Traditional Door.
New for panel processing is Master Cabinet, an innovative modular package designed to speed up cabinet design and production. It is available in three levels for manufacturers with varying requirements.
A unique feature, available with all three levels, is a face framing module for the creation of a solid timber frame fixed to the face of the cabinet, with the door then set inside the frame. This opens up a whole new world to one-off bespoke high value kitchen producers.
Also for panels, Master Nest optimises the number of components per sheet of material and automatically creates the machining program. This gives an advantage to manufacturers who wish to save on material costs and reduce wastage.
